Something New At The State Fair

By | September 2, 2017

2017 State Fair LogoBack in the early 1940’s the Apex Lions were asked to setup a booth at the fair and provide foot to the fair goers. Well that has not changed since 1943. The club has been in the same location provide a wide range of food. Homemade buttermilk biscuits with ham or sausage, homemade vegetable soup, Hand chopped bar-b-q along with our P I I I E have long since become a trademark for out booth. Over the years we have expanded our menu to include a full breakfast with scrambled eggs, grits, sausage gravy, tator tots and most recently added chicken to our biscuits offered.

Sure we have burgers, dogs, fries, chicken tenders, fried sweet corn nuggets. A few years back we started working on a new sweet potato biscuit and this has become a bit hit with our customers. Most want it with ham… which we call our “ Yammie Hammie”
2017 will be a Historic year for the Club at the fair… We are MOVING to a new location TWO DOORS DOWN and TO THE RIGHT OF OUR HOME FOR THE PAST 70 PLUS YEARS. Our new location is twice the size of our original booth. We look forward to this with great enthusiasm.

We have more space in our kitchen to allow us to expand our menu. Most importantly we will have more seating area to allow you our customers more space and easier access. We are very pleased that we can now better accommodate those with special needs for wheel chairs etc.

Our menu will also be expanding to provide some daily specials with a Louisiana flavor. We plan to offer the following on alternating days…
Louisiana Gumbo – Served over rice with cornbread
Louisiana Jambalaya – Served with cornbread
Louisiana Red Beans and rice – Served with cornbread
Fried Catfish Plate – Serviced with Fries, coleslaw and cornbread
Brunswick Stew will be a regular menu item served as a bowl and on our BBQ plates.

Some of our challenges with the new space will take a couple seasons to overcome but we are excited to have the opportunity to improve our offering to our customers. We have a long standing tradition and a huge repeat business. We are committed to maintaining our long standing tradition of “good food for a good cause”. The same smiling faces will greet our customers, the same good food and more space for seating. All Good ….

A new check out system with two cashiers will speed the flow of traffic and reduce wait time. All of which will make dinning at the Apex Lions Booth more enjoyable.

We are always looking for volunteers who wish to help the Lions in their efforts to make life better for others. If you are interested in joining in our efforts please contact I WANT TO HELP and someone will contact you. Our work shifts are 7:30am – 4 pm and 4 pm – 10 pm.

SEE YOU AT THE FAIR
