By | September 8, 2017

Lion Paul DeanAt our September 7 th meeting, Lion Paul Dean gave a wonderful informative presentation about Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Philmont Scout Ranch. Paul, who is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Apex Troop 209, explained that Philmont is one of four high adventure camps located in the United States that provide a variety of outdoor experiences for young men and women. Paul stated, “among the four adventure camps, Philmont is the Crown Jewel” that celebrated it’s One Millionth Scout in July 2014. He provided a summary about the programs offered in each of the 36 staffed camps located throughout the 140,000-acre ranch. Scouts come from all over the world to Philmont. They come as a crew of at least six scouts and two advisors, select a hiking plan and venture into the wilderness for 10 days hiking anywhere from 56 to 103 miles. That leave base as boys and return 10 days later .. as men, more confident in themselves and their abilities to talk on life challenges. Paul thanked Lions for supporting the Apex Troop and looks forward to helping more boys in the scouting program.
