This week we focused on membership. Our membership chair, Lion Horace Johnson kicked off the meeting with some words of encouragement and reminders about membership. This is something that we should all be thinking about every month. With all of the things we do to make Apex a better place to live it should be really easy to invite people to visit our club to meet our members, learn more about our organization and enjoy a meal in the process. The impact we make is limited only by the members we have to serve. For a relatively small group of people we already accomplish a great deal every year. Just imagine what would be possible if we had even more help!
If you are wondering what we are all about, I recommend that you read through some of the posts on this site. We do so many things that it is difficult to express them all in one place. But here are a few highlights. We support the blind and visually impaired with eye exams, eyeglasses, white canes and even guide dogs. We support local youth having sponsored Troop 201 Boy Scouts and Pack 312 Cub Scouts. We also support youth by sponsoring our Leo club at Panther Creek (and we are working to start another this year). We also support Apex Police and Citizens Assisting Police in Apex (CAPA).
We also use the proceeds from our Annual Fish Fry to support a special local need each year. In the past these have included such things as a disabled police officer and his family, a cancer patient in need, putting a roof on a veteran’s home, Western Wake Crisis Ministry and so many others. This year we are planning to benefit a local family in need with two children who’s father recently had multiple strokes. Year after year the people of Apex and surrounding communities come out in droves to support these causes. And this year, we expect nothing less.
