Back in the early 1940’s the Apex Lions were asked to set up a booth at the fair and provide food for the fair goers. Well, that has not changed since 1943. The club has been in the same location and has provided a wide range of food over the years. Homemade buttermilk biscuits with ham or sausage, homemade vegetable soup, hand chopped bar-b-q along with our “P I I I E” have long since become a trademark for our booth. Over the years we have expanded our menu to include a full breakfast with scrambled eggs, grits, sausage gravy, tater tots and most recently added chicken to our biscuits offered.
Sure, we have burgers, dogs, fries, chicken tenders, fried sweet corn nuggets. A few years back we started working on a new sweet potato biscuits and this has become a big hit with our customers. Most people want it with ham… which we call our “ Yammie Hammie”
The 2017 fair was a historic year for the Club Fair Booth because we moved to a new location right next door after more than 70 years! Our new location is twice the size of our original booth. We also have more space in our kitchen which allowed us to expand our menu. Most importantly we will have more seating and space for customers. We are very pleased to better accommodate those with special needs with wheelchairs. Our menu was expanded to provide a daily special with a Louisiana flavor.
- Louisiana Gumbo – Served over rice with cornbread
- Louisiana Jambalaya – Served with cornbread
- Louisiana Red Beans and rice – Served with cornbread
- Mrs. Fearnow’s Brunswick Stew will be a daily menu item and offered as a side on our BBQ plates.
We have a long-standing tradition and a huge repeat business. We are committed to maintaining our tradition of “GOOD FOOD FOR A GOOD CAUSE”. The same smiling faces will greet our customers, the same good food and more space for seating.
Our check-out system with two cashiers will speed the flow of traffic and reduce wait time. We also accept credit cards all aimed to speed the flow and make dining at the Apex Lions Booth even more enjoyable.
We are always looking for volunteers who wish to help the Lions in their efforts to make life better for others. If you are interested in joining in our efforts, please email us at mailto:info@ApexLions.org and someone will contact you. Our work shifts are 7:30am – 4 pm and 4 pm – 10 pm.
We are happy to welcome the North Carolina Ice Cream venue to join us on Restaurant Row. They moved into the old Cary Church area. Now for all of our customers who want ice cream on their “P I I i E”, it will just be a couple doors over.
We will be accepting donations for the new Lions Club initiative to Cure Blindness. Drop your contribution in one of the collection containers in our boot. With some new technology in development blindness may be eliminated soon. What a great day that will be!
We hope to see you at the fair this year! Mention this post and get a free refill on your soft drink or coffee. Just tell them that the “Piiiieee Man” sent you.
Know that over 95% of our profits go to making our community, our state and the world a better place. Our focus is first on sight for those who need eye exams, glasses, and canes. We also support diabetes research and awareness since it is the leading cause of blindness for people born with sight. See you at the State Fair. Thanks for supporting our cub and our causes!
