Supporting Western North Carolina

Early in October we had a visitor from Lake Lure, NC.  Monica Faherty, secretary of the Lake Lure Lions Club was is in because her home at Lake Lure was without power.  Since we knew in advance that she was planning to join us we sent out a notice to our membership to collect items for her to take back with her when she returned. Not only did our members respond with a car-load full of items, our Board of Directors had an impromptu meeting that night and approved two monetary donations be made. One was a donation directly to the Lake Lure Lions Club because we knew that they would be able to help in a very direct and immediate way. The second donation was to the District 31S fund which was being used to help the victims of Hurricane Helene in a broader way. We just received the following message from Lion Monica and the Lake Lure Lions Club:

Dear Apex, NC Lions,

On behalf of the Lake Lure Lions and Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach – A Food Pantry, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donations of cash and supplies. Your support has made a real difference to the Lions in that we will be able to assess and provide locally needed support. I enjoyed meeting so many of you and appreciated the invitation to your meeting.

The Food Pantry has benefited from the food, blankets, clothing and cleaning supplies as so many of our community are still struggling after losing homes, jobs, etc. My car was packed to the rooftop with your donations. I barely had space for my dog!

Your commitment to helping others is inspirational and we are grateful to have your assistance as we recover and rebuild.
