On October 3, 2025, the Apex Lions Club once again performed free vision screenings for the students of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic School. This was the second year our club has partnered with the school to provide screenings, and we were very pleased to see such strong participation. Almost every student was present!
Our team screened students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades for potential vision issues. In total, 154 students were screened and only 4 referrals were made for further evaluation. This is an excellent outcome, showing that most students are seeing clearly and also confirming the importance of screenings to identify those who may need help.
School Nurse Wendy played a key role in making the event a success. She did a fantastic job of organizing the classes and keeping the students moving smoothly through the process. Thanks to her efforts, everything went quickly and efficiently. We were also excited to hear that the school is now considering adding preschool aged children to the program in future years. Early detection is especially valuable for young children, since vision problems can affect learning and development if not addressed.
The Apex Lions Club has its own vision screening device that we use at schools, preschools, and community events. We have been serving Apex in this way for many years, and screenings like these are always provided at no cost. By detecting issues early, we can help children get the treatment they need to thrive in school and in life.
