Chris Johnson, Transportation & Infrastructure Development Director for the Town of Apex, was our guest speaker this evening. Chris worked in the private world for several years before joining the public sector. He first worked for the City of Raleigh, then the Town of Garner and now (since 2022) has been at the Town of Apex.
He started his presentation by sharing the various services his department profides for the town which include Roadway design, Project management, Traffic services, Development services, Infrastruction inspections and Real Estate acquisition. All of this is done by a staff of 21 people.
Chris then explained how the town is taking measures to stay on top of road quailty. Rather than waiting for roads to deteriorate and become more expensive to repair the town is proactively monitoring road quality and making use of techniques to extend the life of roads. This keeps the quaility of our roads high and simultaneously lowers the cost of maintenance and repairs.
Finally, he went through a littany of projets which are currently in progress or near starting. There is a lot going on in downtown Apex and all around town as well.
