At the October 14, 2025 Town Council meeting, the Apex Lions Club was recognized by Mayor Jacques Gilbert and the Apex Town Council with a formal proclamation celebrating our eighty-eighth year of service to the community. This honor acknowledges the long history of dedication, compassion, and volunteerism that has defined our club since its founding in 1937.

The Apex Lions Club was chartered on October 7, 1937 by thirty-one local businessmen who wanted to make Apex a better place to live and to help others. We are proud to be the oldest continuously serving civic club in Apex and part of the worldwide network of Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world.
Mayor Gilbert’s proclamation highlighted several of our contributions to the town, including our role as a charter organization for Apex’s first Boy Scout troop in 1948, our decades of community service projects, and our ongoing support of local causes that improve the well-being of our neighbors. The proclamation also noted that more than ninety percent of all donations and fundraising proceeds go directly back into the community.
Our official motto is “We Serve.” Many say that LIONS stands for “Loving Individuals Offering Needed Services,” and that spirit continues to guide our work today. We focus especially on assisting those who are blind or visually impaired, whom we affectionately call “VIPs,” short for Visually Impaired People. We also conduct free vision screenings for children, collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids for redistribution, and support a variety of programs such as Camp Dogwood for the Blind, Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, and Western Wake Crisis Ministry.
During the presentation, several members of the Apex Lions Club attended to receive the proclamation. Afterward, we expressed our gratitude to the mayor and council for the recognition and invited everyone present to learn more about our mission by visiting ApexLions.org
