At our recent Apex Lions Club meeting, we were privileged to hear from Amy Lynn Clark, Director of Development at ALS United. Amy shared powerful information about ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), a progressive neurological disease that impacts 5,000 people each year in the U.S. With no known cure, ALS presents significant challenges for patients, families, and caregivers.
ALS United is on a mission to support those affected by ALS with a variety of programs. These include:
- Care Grants: Financial assistance of up to $750, which can be received as often as twice per year.
- Equipment Loan Closet: Providing access to essential medical equipment at no cost to ALS patients.
- Support Groups: Connecting patients, families, and caregivers with valuable emotional support and resources.
Research into potential triggers, such as concussions among NFL players and the elevated diagnosis rate among veterans, continues. Thanks to organizations like ALS United, those affected by ALS can find the resources and community support they need.
As Lions, we are committed to serving our local community and supporting critical causes. By joining the Apex Lions Club, you can help us raise awareness, provide hope, and extend a helping hand to those battling ALS. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
