The Apex Lions Club was honored to host District Governor Dwayne Turner from the Louisburg Lions Club at our November 20 meeting. His visit focused on recognition, growth, and renewed collaboration across North Carolina. He began by presenting membership chevron awards. These chevrons, added to a Lion’s pin, mark years of dedicated service. They highlight the steady commitment that keeps our work in Apex strong.

Next he updated us on Mission 1.5, the effort to grow Lions Clubs International to 1.5 million members. North Carolina is making progress with two new clubs added this year in District S and District O. A new Cyber Club for Eastern North Carolina is also in development with leadership from Second Vice District Governor Kayla Swaim. District S has welcomed 17 new members toward its goal of 91, and Louisburg is working on adding Lions road signs to increase visibility.
Childhood Cancer remains a global Lions priority. Districts N and S are collaborating on a 5K in Greenville to raise funds for an immersion room for children in treatment. DG Dwayne offered specialty pins during the meeting to help support this effort.
He emphasized the importance of club cooperation. One example is Scotland Neck, where nearby Lions Clubs are being asked to help revive local activities through events and volunteer support.
Brighter Visions and Camp Dogwood are both doing well. Governor Turner encouraged continued support for Lions Clubs International Fund, which is helping meet major needs such as the disaster recovery efforts now underway in Jamaica. He also shared that Lion Wayne Wright, who suffered a severe stroke, is in need of support through his GoFundMe.
The overall outlook for this year is positive, but the work continues. If you live in Apex and want to make a real difference, we invite you to consider joining the Apex Lions Club. With more hands and hearts, we can keep building on this momentum and serve our community even better.
